I've tried downloading it from the website and I even ordered the CD. It' won't work either way! Help!
You may need to do a fresh install.
Backup all your documents to an external hard drive or burn them. Backup your email as well.
Make sure you have the installation CDs for your programs and drivers.
Format your hard drive and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows XP Service Pack 2
Install all Drivers. Download All Microsoft Updates. Install your programs.

then look at
(1) your free disk space... you need alot free to store the reinstall back up if things go wrong
(2) your memory. minimum 512 megs the more the better
download service pack 3 RC2 from MS link be low.. it is 315.6 megabytes
download it don't do a auto install
Have you downloaded all critical updates before attempting to install service pack2? If not, download them first.

have had this before, there are certain motherboards that wont accept SP2 without updating the biodownload xp microsofts first.
if you can find out the make and model of the MB first and out it in the question. then look at the manufacturers site for bios upgrade instructions, its may be quite involved. either way back up your data first.
reinstalling XP SP2 from an SP2 patch disc will not work, the disc does not contain an operating system, only a patch.
then again, you may just be running out of space on the C drive. check your free space and clear some up if necessary
