We all know that hiccups are extremely annoying, and everyone has a different solution... Drinking backwards, stand on your head, not breathing for 30 seconds, drinking with your finger in you ear, being frightened and so many others. My friends say it has to do with your diaphragm but I don't get how. I think it would be interesting to know how the remidies work and also how they occur.
Thanks! x
Hiccups occur when your diaphragm (a large sheet of muscle beneath yhow do hiccups occurour rib cage) becomes out of sync with the movement of the lungs as they inhale and exhale. This causes a spasmodic reflex, causing the "hic" noise.
There are lots of things which can cause hiccups to occur, such as fizzy drinks, alcohol, very dry food, very spicy food, etc. There are literally hundred of 'remedies' for hiccups, but none of them are 100% guaranteed to work, and none of them can really be explained because they are simply theories, and nothow do hiccups occur actual cures. Lots of people believe putting sugar beneath your tongue works, or drinking water upside down, or taking a teaspoon of vinegar... the list goes on, but the fact is that hiccups resolve themselves eventually, regardless of any attempt to 'fix' them.
I'm sorry I didn't get to choose you myself, but thank-you so much, that was a great help! AV儿劣** (5 Stars :])
